SRJJA News:

The Master/Senior Worlds were held in Brazil the weekend of July 25th. Gracie Humitia took home the Team Trophy for the six year in a row. Regis Lebre brought four guys including himself and they brought home four medals. Gold medals went to Brian Rago (brown belt), John Padova (purple belt); Silver medals went to Regis (black belt) and John Disimone (brown belt). As always Regis and his students were a force to be reckoned with.

Saulo will compete this coming weekend in the BJJ No Gi Worlds in California. He will be in the middle-heavy division; best of luck to him and the team.

Saulo/Xande student Fabricio “morango” Camoes will be fighting Sam Morgan on Showtime’s ShoXC, August 15th. It will air at 11:00pm. Morango is coming off an impressive win over Joe Comacho; first round TKO. We will be cheering for you.

Xande will make his MMA debut in Japan on September 28th, fighting in the SENGOKU show. His opponent has not yet been determined. We all know Xande is awesome and will continue his success in MMA as he does in both gi and no gi tournaments. This is great news for us Saulo and Xande students/fans; another step in their already awesome history.

Saulo’s book will be out by the end of September. He will be doing a number of book signings and will be in Toledo in November when we have the BADDOG MMA fights (exact date cannot be locked in but 60 days in advanced).

The SRJJA Annual tourney will be in Toledo on October 4th. This is a great time for all of us to hang out, learn from each other and watch some great matches. More details to come later.

Diego “nightmare” Sanchez will be going to battle with Tiago “pitbull”Alves in the UFC on October 25th in Chicago. This is a great opportunity for us in the Midwest to support and see the UFC live. With this win, it would be hard to imagine that Diego would not be up for a title shot; remember Diego is undefeated since training with the champs.

Please check out the upcoming events to keep up on what else is planned.

Academy News:

I am very excited about how things are going for our schools and the Midwest associations. We are growing strong together and are developing a very organized team; keep up the great job!!

We competed in the Ohio Buckeye Border Challenge on July 26th. Team Saulo did well with the higher ranks showing their time training with Saulo/Xande and their instructors has paid off. Bryan Slygh and Kris Magers closed out the gi Open. Jeremy Harris and Justin Wehr went undefeated in both the gi and no gi. Jeremy won the master no gi Open and beat a tough brown belt in the gi as well. Justin won his gi match in the purple belt and also won the advanced no gi lightweight title. Brent Insco placed second in the no gi advanced middleweight beating some tough opponents.

The blue and white belts won a ton on medals and matches as well. We are proud of you all and keep training hard. Go to my website, photo gallery page to see some pics.

August 23rd – next association training – the Michigan Open had to move to Sept 27th.

I will be traveling to Virginia Beach from September 3 – 8th to conduct seminars. If you are interested in going, please let me know. Allen said he will find you a place to stay.

I am also planning on going to San Diego from September 14 – 21st. Saulo and Xande have invited me to visit and watch/help with the training and teach some classes for them. It will be a great opportunity for me to learn new techniques as well. Our instructors are doing a great job and will fill in for me when I am gone.

Kelly Hymore, our boxing/mma coach has been teaching 3 days per week. Kelly’s understanding of stand up fighting is simply awesome. The class is a go at your own pace. You can do drills and learn or can go into the ring/cage and bang when you are ready.

Brent Insco has become a distributer of the body wash DEFENSE. We have bottles available at both the Toledo and Detroit schools. This is a wash that keeps skin infections away. It is only $10.00 per bottle and should last at least 2 months. I highly recommend this product and it can be used up to 4 hours after you train. Remember to keep your clothes you train in clean and yourself as well.

We will only be closed in Toledo on Labor Day; will be open on Saturday like normal. In Detroit we will be closed Sunday and Monday.

Next BADDOG MMA event is going to be in November!!

I have updated the upcoming events; please check out the page to keep up on things.

Remember, a Black Belt is a White Belt that never quit!!

Until next month,

Chris
